Seashell
A seashell is the hard, protective outer layer created by marine invertebrates, primarily mollusks like snails, clams, and oysters, made mainly from calcium carbonate and proteins, serving as a portable home and defense against predators. These beautiful, intricate structures grow with the animal, adding layers over time, and can be found washed ashore as durable remnants of the creatures' lives, showcasing unique colors and patterns influenced by diet, environment, and genetics. When I was a child I walked the seashore many days collecting seashells. Carlise Bay is not knows for sea shells however less than 5km away there are beaches that you can find a vast array of seashells of many colors and sizes.

Seahorse
A seahorse is any of 46 species of small marine bony fish in the genus Hippocampus. The genus name comes from the Ancient Greek hippókampos, itself from híppos meaning "horse" and kámpos meaning "sea monster" or "sea animal". Carlisle Bay is well known for several diving sites including several shipwrecks. Perhaps you will see one of the "sea monsters" a seahorse if you are a diver who is going to explore the wrecks.

Sand Dollar
Sand dollars are species of flat, burrowing sea urchins belonging to the order Clypeasteroida. Some species within the order, not quite as flat, are known as sea biscuits. Sand dollars can also be called "sand cakes" or "cake urchins".Some folklore suggests sand dollars are coins lost by mermaids or citizens of Atlantis.

Coral
Coral reefs are the most diverse of all marine ecosystems. They teem with life, with perhaps one-quarter of all ocean species depending on reefs for food and shelter. This is a remarkable statistic when you consider that reefs cover just a tiny fraction (less than one percent) of the earth’s surface and less than two percent of the ocean bottom. Because they are so diverse, coral reefs are often called the rainforests of the sea.This room is perhaps my favorite and has a very special feature being and old fireplace the was restored. This is very rare in Barbados. It no longer functions but it ads so much charm to this very special cozy room. This room does have a low doorway so it may not be for you if you are over 6ft tall

Sea fans are beautiful, fan-shaped colonial animals, a type of soft coral (gorgonian) made of tiny polyps that filter-feed plankton from water currents, providing shelter for reef fish and invertebrates, and are found worldwide in warm, reef environments, despite their plant-like appearance. They are known for their delicate, intricate structures and vibrant colors (purple, orange, yellow). Sea fans may be seen in the sea around the island at many locations and on some of the shipwrecks in Carlisle Bay.

Turtle Nest
Barbados is a key spot for sea turtle conservation and tourism, hosting Hawksbill, Green, and Leatherback turtles, with Hawksbills having the Caribbean's second-largest nesting population, offering amazing snorkeling/diving in places like Carlisle Bay to see them. Visitors can swim with them on tours (following rules not to touch), witness nesting/hatching (July-Oct),
Turtles are not normally known to nest on Carlisle Bay but nest on beaches as close as 1km away, they do however frequent the bay, swimming and feeding.

Starfish
Starfish, or sea stars, are marine invertebrates (not fish) with radial symmetry, typically having five arms but some with many more, found in all oceans from tidal zones to deep seas, known for their vibrant colors, suction-cup tube feet for movement, and unique ability to regenerate lost limbs and even turn their stomach inside out to digest prey like clams and mussels externally. They are essential for reef health as predators, belonging to the phylum Echinodermata with sea urchins and sand dollars. The red pillow sea star is often seen below the crystal azul waters of Carlisle Bay.

OUR STORY
Our Property is a historic building within the UNESCO World Heritage site of Bridgetown.
Footsteps away from the most beautiful beach in Barbados. Carlisle Bay has crystal clear turquoise waters & white sand. Located within a UNESCO historic area a short walk from the capital Bridgetown, several attractions, activities, shops, medical facilities, cruise port & on site restaurants.
You will be in the midst of it all, located on the main south coast bus route. Enjoy all the activities around you including snorkeling & pickle ball or simply relax in our gardens or on the beach.
The building that houses our rooms is charming but old. The building began renovations in 2022 and in October 2024 we opened our rooms.
Our rooms are all upstairs and not suitable for those with walking or mobility issues, we think it is important that you know this ahead of time to ensure you have the best experience possible and that there are no surprises.
We are also located on a beach club property :) The beach is amazing; it is one if not the best in Barbados and the Caribbean. There is a restaurant, 24-hour beach bars and food truck park. There is nightly entertainment with live bands and dancing many nights. This is an active area and more suitable for active individuals who enjoy nightlife.
